On the road to our Dream Home

Time for some planting!

Well it's taken six months to get to this stage, but at long last the landscaping part of our house contract has finally been done. Now all we have to do is decide which plants to put where. Pete has wisely decided that the front yard is my domain, so I am looking around for ideas on what plants to have. Any suggestions will be gladly accepted! Just as long as you don't tell me where to stick them.. hehehe Keep coming back and follow our new journey, as we turn our front and backyards into a garden.. although knowing that I am hardly a greenthumb, maybe artificial plants and trees might be the way to go! I couldn't possibly go wrong there...or could I?!

A Home at Last!

It has been a long and sometimes bumpy ride but we are finally in our home and we love it. There are a few little issues that will have to be seen to but all in all we are both very happy and love living here. Here are a few photos and we hope you enjoy them. Thanks for taking this journey with us. I hope you enjoyed our story so far..........to be continued..........

Out with the old, in with the new!

And I'm not talking husbands.... hehehe, although I'd be justified because as you all know what men are like when they're sick, and Pete has been sick all week with the flu..poor darling!! What I'm actually referring to is the fact that we aren't having to deal with Michael our site supervisor anymore as he has been replaced with a construction manager, who is actually Michael's boss and therefore must be a lot better. Let's face it though, could he be any worse?
I know it's been over a month since my last update, but that's because during that month there's been nothing much to update with. With that in mind, I couldn't possibly write anything witty like you all expect from me, so there would have only been a lot of things that would have to have been bleeped out, because I haven't been too happy with the progress. Add to that the fact that the house across the road from us has been finished and moved into way ahead of their schedule while we sit here, still waiting, waiting, waiting!
Anyway, on to the good stuff...we were able to get into the house today because some kind person (or idiot) left the front door open..not just unlocked, but wide open! Imagine our surprise when we saw the front door open?! We ran in and my brave husband did a sweep of the house to make sure there were no intruders waiting in the shadows so it would be safe for me to enter. Too late though because I had hightailed it straight into the ensuite to get my first (inside) glimpse at our SPA!! Yes, you read that right...our spa has been installed and it looks fantastic! I just stood there staring at it for a while and imagining lying back drinking champagne and eating chocolates, so I wouldnt have wanted to meet an intruder who would have stood between me and that spa, because I would have been a force to be reckoned with...okay, I would have let Pete deal with it :)
I just walked around the rest of the house with a big smile, picturing us finally moving in because it seems like there's not much else left to do. You can see from the pictures however that someone has a big clean up to do...the tiles are filthy...I mean geeeez, dont workmen think of removing dirty shoes before they enter?! can't they have inside and outside shoes?
We haven't been given any dates as yet because there are still issues with the concreting, but I am confident that will be resolved this week. Good news is the fence has been done on one side.
We did some measuring up today and made sure the office furniture we bought for the study will fit, and it does, so thats a plus..as it's going to look great!
When we left we made sure we locked the front door..wasn't too hard really, just push a button..it's not rocket science..but I guess if a real smarty pants was the last person at the house before we got there today..then we wouldn't have been able to get inside and that would have meant Pete got out of his sickbed for nothing...he was such a trooper! Let's hope now I don't get sick...accchoooo darn it!!

And So the End is Near!!

I should have made a bet with Pete this week that the tiling would be done because I would have won. Yes siree folks, the tiling has indeed be done, inside and out. The only bit that hasn't been tiled is, yep, you guessed it, the end of the ensuite where the spa has to be installed. Don't get me started on that spa again! Ok, so you want to know what drama it has been this time..you know you want to. This week we have been told that yes, the spa has indeed been ordered but shock horror, they are having trouble getting the black headrests we want,so there is a delay on them. Once again this means a 'we'll get back to you on that' phone call..so we shall wait and see what happens. I tell you, sometimes I just feel like getting a blow up kiddies pool, setting it up in the corner and getting Pete to sit in it and blow bubbles at me!! I just want this done, well we both do, and seeing as we are still being told the build is still on track and we should be in it around this time next month, then someone better get a wriggle on! The final inspection is still supposed to be around the 25th of this month..oooohhhh, thats only 9 days away!! Pete and I have both got the 6th of July off..and that seems a more likely date, but lets just wait and see.
Ok, so work done this week has been..tiling as I mentioned..very happy with how that all looks and the alfresco in my opinion looks great. The painter did all those wooden bits above the windows as you can see from the pictures, and we are happy we picked that red colour as it blends in well with the bricks. Also, the red has been used in the wood above the alfresco and we are happy with that. The front doors, metre box and all the drain pipes have been painted as well.
As I said last week we are more then happy with our colour selection regarding the tiles. You don't realise how big an area they fill until you actually see them laid, so someone is going to be kept busy keeping those clean..any takers? I like how they dont put skirting boards in any of the wet areas, and actually cut a tile in half and have a row of them around the bottom of the walls..much easier for that tile cleaner I think.
One thing we were very happy with is our walk in robe. The cupboards and shelves have all been done and it looks great..so many shelves and drawers and hanging spaces..It isn't the layout we have on our plans, but shhhhhhhh..the one we have looks heaps better!
As we are having a rainwater tank at the back of the house, there has been an area boxed in and readied for that to be installed. You should see the guy next doors one..it is huge!! We spoke to him yesterday and he said thank goodness the fences hadn't been done or there would have been a problem getting that down the side of his house. Once the fence is up we wont see too much of it, so thats a good thing.
The house across the road looks about ready to move into. A big clue for that fact was the workers toilet has been removed..so cant wait till ours has gone too or we'll move in and have passers by dropping in to use it haha
A few near neighbours have dropped soil off at the back of the house..we knew there were going to be a few loads of it but there ended up being over 20!! But they will all be put to good use. *Marks calender for working bee for family and friends in near future*
On another good note, we went out for lunch today and I suggested we go and have a look at a few furniture places. We ended up buying our new bed, a double and 2 single reclining theatre chairs and an entertainment unit for our theatre room. Now, I just have to find somewhere that sells inflatable pools for that ensuite!!
